Special Olympics Washington Winter Games roll into the Wenatchee Valley this coming weekend. 1700 athletes are expected to compete in several events, including basketball, speed skating, figure skating, snowboarding, alpine and nordic skiing. It all begins Friday evening with the opening ceremonies, 8:00 at Town Toyota Center. It's a free "must see" celebration. The actual competition starts up early Saturday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon. In all, about 4,000 visitors will be on hand for the Games, making it the single largest sporting event of the year in the Wenatchee Valley.
