Variety is the name of the game for the next few months of sports activity in The Wenatchee Valley. Events range from high level figure skating to a color rush run, giving participants and spectators plenty of choices.Highlights in August include the PNIC Figure Skating Championships at Town Toyota Center from the 7th – 10th. Many of these skaters will be back in October to compete in the Northwest Pacific US Figure Skating Regionals. Fans of figure skating will be in for quite a treat, as some of the top upcoming talent in the US will compete. Another popular August event is the 2nd Annual United Way Color Rush on the 17th. The inaugural edition last year drew nearly 600 entrants, and judging from the popularity of similar events elsewhere, strong growth is anticipated. A nice mixture of softball rounds out August, with the O’Terry’s Co-Ed Lads & Lasses, the Hot August Nights Seniors and the NSA Men’s State tournaments on the schedule.September and October feature running events, including marathons in Lake Chelan and Leavenworth and the River Run in Wenatchee. The WRAC hosts Octoberfest Mixed Doubles Tennis and the NW Community College Jamboree, both in early October. The area’s largest soccer tournament, the Apple Cup, is also in October, as is the fore-mentioned US Figure Skating Regionals. Throw in an assortment of local golf tournaments, and the start of fall school sports, and you’ll find plenty to keep you busy.
