The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society knows the animals can’t wait any longer! The aging shelter is literally falling apart. Drains barely function. Ventilation is practically nonexistent. Kennels are deteriorating. The noise is deafening. Costs to constantly repair inefficient systems have become astronomical. The WVHS Board of Directors is responding to this critical need. After extensive study, the Board has selected MJ Neal and Associates to oversee the critical task of building a new shelter, and plans have been submitted to the permit process. With continued generous support from the community, groundbreaking is slated for early this spring.Though huge progress has been made, the task is far from over. Supporters are spearheading a massive capital campaign to raise the remaining funds needed to see the building to completion. As part of this campaign, the shelter’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Auction for the Animals, will include a special call-out for donations not only for current shelter operations, but to also help make the new building a reality. The fun-filled event takes place Feb. 21, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wenatchee Convention Center.Over 2240 animal adoptions occurred in 2013—an amazing number considering the conditions the shelter faces. With a more efficient, well-built facility, so much more can be accomplished. For more information contact Wenatchee Valley Humane Society at 509-662-9577 or www.wenatcheehumane.org.
