Looking for a unique destination just a few hours from Seattle? Look no further than Wenatchee, with a charming, walkable downtown, beautiful outdoors, and delicious food, all without the big-city price tag. Here’s your guide to exploring the city on a budget, including how to get here and around town without a car.

Car Free Travel: Getting to Wenatchee + Around Town Without a Car

Getting to Wenatchee without a car is easier than you might think. Multiple bus services connect Seattle and Wenatchee, including the Wenatchee Valley Shuttle, which offers multiple daily runs between Sea-Tac and Wenatchee, with stops in Bellevue, North Bend, and Cle Elum. The service runs year-long and is usually about a three-hour trip. You can also check out Greyhound for additional bus service options between Seattle and Wenatchee.

Once you’ve here, getting around town is just as easy. Link Transit offers completely free public transportation, with routes connecting you to destinations throughout the Wenatchee area. Downtown Wenatchee is very walkable, so you may find that you won’t need to use the bus at all, unless you are venturing beyond downtown.

Where to Stay

Wenatchee has plenty of affordable lodging options, most of them located just steps from downtown shops and restaurants. A few options to consider include the Coast Hotel and Avid Hotel. If you're looking for a more luxury stay that is still affordable, check out Residence Inn or Hilton Garden Inn.

What to Do

Wenatchee offers no shortage of things to do, many of them free or very affordable! In the warmer months, hike the foothills (don't miss the spring wildflowers!), bike the Apple Capital Loop Trail, kayak the Columbia River, or visit Ohme Gardens. In the cooler months, head to Mission Ridge for unbeatable skiing, with a free 20-minute shuttle from downtown, fewer crowds, and lift tickets that are often more affordable than at other PNW ski areas. Any time of year, wander historic downtown and Pybus Public Market to explore local shops, restaurants, and tasting rooms.

Where to Eat & Drink

Wenatchee is quietly emerging as one of Washington’s most exciting and diverse food destinations, with options for every craving and plenty of ways to keep dining affordable. Start your morning at The Wild Huckleberry, Le Vie En, or Cafe Columbia. For lunch, some local favorites include McGlinn's Public House, Sweetwood BBQ, or Crisp Wenatchee. After a day of exploring, settle in for dinner at Visconti’s Italian Restaurant, Timberline Brewing, or Perico's Lounge. Craving something a little more elevated? Don’t miss Atlas Fare or Archive Bistro.

So, pack your bags, hop on the bus, and we’ll see you in Wenatchee!
