The Washington State Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee, Washington, has a long-standing tradition of featuring musical theater productions as a highlight of its annual celebrations. While the Apple Blossom musical has been a cherished part of the festival for many years, a new era began in 2001 with Music Theatre of Wenatchee's production of "Annie" at the Numerica Performing Arts Center. This marked the beginning of a partnership between the Numerica Performing Arts Center and Music Theatre of Wenatchee, moving the shows to the larger venue to reach a broader audience. After a few years, the productions briefly returned to the Riverside Playhouse before settling back at the PAC with the 2016 production of "Mary Poppins." Since then, the musicals have continued to be held at the PAC, growing in scale and popularity.

Over the years, they have showcased a diverse array of musicals, delighting audiences with both classic and contemporary productions. Notable performances include:

  • 2019: "Disney’s Newsies"
In celebration of the festival's 100th anniversary, the production featured a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and was directed by Paul and Kelly Atwood.
  • 2023: "Shrek The Musical"
Directed by Dave Williams, this production brought the beloved ogre's story to life with a cast of 47, featuring all the favorite characters from the popular film series.
  • 2024: "Grease"
Directed by Kelly and Paul Atwood, this rendition of the iconic 1950s musical featured classic songs like "Summer Nights" and "Greased Lightnin’," capturing the spirit of Rydell High.
  • 2025: "Catch Me If You Can"
This year's production brings the thrilling and fast-paced true story of Frank Abagnale Jr. to the stage. With a jazzy score and a captivating storyline inspired by the hit film and real-life events, the show follows the young con artist as he evades the FBI while assuming various identities. Directed by Hailey Tolman, this exciting musical promises high-energy performances and a visually stunning production.

These productions are typically held at the Numerica Performing Arts Center, a venue that has been integral to the festival's theatrical presentations since 2016. The collaboration between the Music Theatre of Wenatchee and the Numerica Performing Arts Center has been instrumental in bringing high-quality musical theater to the community during the festival.

As of 2025, the tradition continues with plans underway for the next Apple Blossom Musical, promising to uphold the festival's legacy of celebrating the performing arts in Wenatchee.
